Test one thing that needs to work.
The Functional Availability Check helps identify whether an everyday outcome is actually available to the intended person under ordinary conditions.

Choose one result, not the whole system.
Do not try to diagnose every device, account or service at once. Start with one outcome that matters. The aim is not to prove that technology is present. It is to find out whether the person can reliably achieve the intended result.

Name one outcome
Use ordinary language. For example: receive an important message, join an appointment, make a call, find the next instruction, or control something needed at home. Do not begin with the product or the settings screen.

Test the real pathway
Try the activity in the conditions where it normally matters: the usual person, place, time, device state and connection. A successful demonstration by someone who knows the system is not the same test.

Find the first unreliable point
Trace forward from the intention and stop at the first place the expected response fails. Is it the prompt, the account, the notification, the interface, the physical action, the service link or something else?

Separate chosen support from accidental dependence
Support can be useful and intended. The issue is whether an outcome works only because one person remembers a hidden step, holds an account detail, knows a command or happens to be present.

Record the working route
When it works, write down the normal pathway, who can perform it, and what must remain true. This turns a one-off fix into a repeatable outcome rather than a memory held by one person.

- The outcome being tested.
- The usual person who performs it.
- The route that worked.
- The conditions that mattered.
- The first thing to check if it stops working again.
